Delhi Agra Jaipur Varanasi Tour

Overview | Taj Mahal and Ganges Tour India

Varanasi is considered the holiest of Seven Cities by Hindus, Jains and even Buddhists. It is one of the most ancient cities of the world and oldest in India. Considered the spiritual capital of the world, according to Hindu beliefs one dying here attains salvation. One of the largest residential universities of Asia the Benaras Hindu University is located here. Varanasi is often referred to as "the city of temples", "the holy city of India", "the religious capital of India", "the city of lights", "the city of learning", and "the oldest living city on earth." It is a place where you meet faith in totality. The enchanting bells, chantings and river side Aarti is something you have to experience yourself.

Ganges is a sacred river that emerges from the Himalayas and brings to life a vast landscape called India. It is present everywhere, in legends, mytholody and thoughts. It happens to be the Third largest river in the world and traveles over 2500 Kms before meeting the ocean at the Bay of Bengal. It is a life line to millions inhabiting the cities located at its pious banks.

According to legends, King Bhagiratha anxious to restore his ancestors, undertakes rigorous penance and is eventually granted the prize of Ganga's descent from heaven. Fore warned of destruction her fall might cause, he persuaded Lord Shiva in his abode on Mount Kailash to receive Ganga in the coils of his tangled hair and break her fall. Ganga descends, is tamed in Shiva's locks, and arrives in the Himalayas. She is then led by the waiting Bhagiratha down into the plains at Haridwar, across the plains first to the confluence with the Yamuna at Prayag and then to Varanasi.
